Mr. and Mrs. Dursley from Harry Potter are the perfect image of what a Christian imagination shouldn’t be like.

The first thing we learn about them is that they are proud to tell you they are “perfectly normal, thank you very much.”

They shrink from even the slightest association with magic–to the point where they refuse to see what’s right in front of their eyes. In other words, they actively malform their imaginations.

By contrast, George MacDonald said that “the function of imagination is to inquire into what God has made.” The job of the Christian is to seek not only the magic, but also the meaning behind itto encounter the transcendent at every turn.

When our imaginations are shaped by the stories and rhythms of the world, or by a faith devoid of imagination, we become people proud to be perfectly normal, thank you very much. The very last people to be involved in anything strange or mysterious. The very last people to recognize a great adventure when it tumbles through our door, knocks us over, and threatens to make us late for dinner.

But when our imaginations are shaped well, when we learn to see the world with the eyes of heaven, then and only then can we fully enter into the work of Christ in shaping the earth to reflect heaven.

That’s why we need great stories, great songs, and great images–and a community shaped by them.

In 2025, we want to:

  • Fill Colorado Springs with more of all of that; quarterly pub nights with songs and storytelling, and many smaller get-togethers to foster life together.

  • And fill our podcasts and YouTube channel with beauty, joyful celebration, and ancient wisdom.

If you want to be a part of this, please consider:

  1. Making an end-of-year gift (or better yet, setting up a recurring monthly gift)

  2. Or getting more involved, from wherever you are (there are lots of ways!).

P.S. Please be in prayer for this campaign. You can also join as a prayer partner here to be more actively kept in the loop on prayer requests!
