  • You will need to pay for your own FAC ticket ($12) and lunch. (There is no additional ticket charge on Anselm's end to participate in the outing.)
  • 11:00 AM: Meet in the lobby of the FAC (please arrive a little early to purchase your ticket).
  • 1:00 PM (or so): Walk over to La'au's Tacos for discussion.

The Discussion

Things to think about as you experience the exhibit:

  • What paintings strike you as particularly beautiful? What do you like about them?
  • Does art need to be beautiful in order to be art?
  • How does the beauty (or lack of beauty) in art impact the broader culture?

Before coming, we encourage you to watch this video, "Why Beauty Matters," with Roger Scruton (encouraged but not required). He has some strong opinions, and encountering them beforehand will give you a chance to think about some things that will enrich your time with us.

About the Exhibit

From Rembrandt to Warhol: Selections from the Morton and Tobia Mower Collection, at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Sparked by their first fine art acquisition, intended primarily to be a prudent financial investment, the exceptional collection of Morton and Tobia Mower has multiplied into scores of Rembrandt etchings, Impressionist paintings and prints by masters such as Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot. Their collection also includes examples from some of the most recognizable artists of the 20th century – Pop artists such as Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein. Everyday life, familiar stories and common objects comprise each image, but these stunning artworks are far from ordinary.
