God made us to see His glory at every turn. To live in a way that takes us deeper and deeper into His life, as He prepares us for the fullness that is yet to come.
But most of us don’t experience life this way very often. The season of Advent reminds us that “real life,” and even the physical world we live in, seem profoundly disenchanted. And our faith doesn’t seem strong enough to feel every particle of existence crackling with the presence of heaven on the other side of the veil.
This is all wrong. We were made to be a royal priesthood, recognizing God’s work in His entire creation, and offering it back up to Him in subcreation and gratitude.
In other words, our world really is supposed to be more like Narnia, and we’re supposed to be the ones participating in the work of Christ in making it so.
At the Anselm Society, we seek to help each other answer this call; declaring this deep magic, and bringing its rich meaning into every facet of our lives. We want to re-equip each other with the rich stories, songs, images, theology, and wisdom to help us do that. (This recent feature details the 10-year story of God’s faithfulness in making that possible.)
I don’t bombard you with fundraising emails often, and truly, so much of what God empowers us to do all year long comes through the gifts of your time and talents. But we do need some money to pay the unavoidable costs of operation, and our membership isn’t large enough to cover all of them. So I’m writing to ask if you will include us in your end-of-year giving.
Last year, we were able to raise $10,000 in December, mostly through relatively small gifts–so so sharing a portion–no matter what amount–of what God has blessed you with does matter. If you haven’t already, will you give to support our work together this December?
