Storytelling Role in Art to be Featured in Fall Gallery
God communicates with images as well as words. His Goodness, Truth, and Beauty are infused in creation's beauty, imprinted in the physicality of our bodies, and incarnated in Jesus.
That's why art is such an integral part of the Anselm Society and its nationally known annual Imagination Redeemed Conference. Plans are being laid for the 6th annual Conference, slated to be held September 30-October 1, 2022, at Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Stay tuned for more information!
Last week the Anselm Society issued a Call for Art for its concurrent Imagination Redeemed Gallery, an exhibition of original art that runs in conjunction with the greater Conference.
The deadline for submission is June 30, 2022, said Gallery Director Christa Issler. Learn more about submitting artwork here. Or, to see last year’s exhibit, visit the 2021 Imagination Redeemed Gallery.
SIGHT + RECITE: ARTISTS, STORIES, & TIME
“This year, the gallery theme will be Sight + Recite: Artists, Stories, & Time,” said Issler. “We want to highlight the storytelling role of the artist, focusing on imagery that enfleshes God's narratives and grapple with the gift of time that He has given us.”
Images navigate where intellect cannot tread. They root themselves where words cannot pierce. They can be the lone star shining in the blackest night or the poignant sense of awe that breaks through the hum-drum of life. God is not just the Word but also the Image.
Throughout history, God uses images and stories as signposts to point us towards Himself. He even tells of the importance of remembering these stories.
TELLING THE STORY, AGAIN
Psalm 78 reminds us of the importance of remembering God’s love story and calls out the many stories of redemption that, like jewels, stud God’s story of love for us. Psalm writer Asaph implores his listeners “to tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done.” (78:4) So that God’s people will “put their trust in God, and [will] not forget his deeds, but [will] keep his commands.” (78: 7)
These jewel-like stories shine bright in the darkness and teach each new generation The Story of God’s Goodness, Truth, and Beauty.
What stories about time or exploring time, has God placed in your mind that help you recall God, His stories, His Goodness, His Truth, or His Beauty? What stories would He have you share with others?
