"Never forget that when we are dealing with any pleasure in its healthy and normal and satisfying form, we are, in a sense, on the Enemy's ground..."
Uncle Screwtape to Wormwood (Letter 9, para. 2)
The launch of the Anselm Society Book Club was encouraging. And small. (Summer sucks up time, doesn't it?) So imagine the encouragement of having 14 people attend the first gathering! A number had never attended the book club, and quite a few had never been to an Anselm Society event before. Take that, Screwtape!
So we're going to do it again and make Screwtape nervous by taking pleasure in one another's company "on the Enemy's ground!"
When and Where?
6:30pm, Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the home of Teri and Steve Moon. (Email terri@anselmsociety.org for the address.)
What to Read?
We're continuing The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. We got through Letter 7, so we'll start on Letter 8 and see how far we can get! Maybe to Letter 15?
Don’t worry if you've never read the Letters. Just come!
We have been casually using the aid of a study guide produced by the C.S. Lewis Institute. We can continue to do so. If you're without a copy, here is a link to the digital version.
What About Refreshments?
Seeing as food and drink are some of the elements of merriment that Screwtape and Wormwood so detest, try to bring food or drink to share! If that's not possible, a small donation would be very appreciated!
Please feel free to invite friends or family! If you do decide to bring more than a few new folks, it would be helpful to alert the Moons ahead of time.
